Glenwood, Rifle girls will host; boys hit the road
The Colorado High School Activities Association released the 4A state basketball playoffs bracket for both the girls and boys, and this time around both the boys and girls teams from Glenwood and Rifle will go dancing in hopes of reaching the Denver Coliseum.
The Rifle girls team, which is coming off a 4A Western Slope League regular season title, will head into the state tournament as the No. 13 seed, securing a first round bye.
Rifle will await the winner of No. 20 Green Mountain (10-13) and No. 45 Longmont (9-14).
In Year 2 under Head Coach Rhonda Moser, the Glenwood girls basketball team improved by leaps and bounds, capping off a strong season by earning the No. 28 seed in the 4A state playoffs, where it’ll host No. 37 Erie (10-13) Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. inside Chavez-Spencer Gymnasium.
For the Rifle boys team, it was a down year compared to last season, but the Bears will head into the state playoffs yet again under Head Coach Roger Walters. The Bears earned the No. 46 seed, but they’ll have to travel to the Front Range to take on No. 19 Thompson Valley (14-9) in a first round matchup.
The Glenwood boys, who clinched a share of the 4A WSL regular season title last Thursday by topping Rifle 44-29, will head into the state playoffs as the No. 39 seed. The Demons will travel to No 26 Conifer (10-13) for a first round matchup.
