Around $1,200 worth of cash and checks were reported stolen from the Affordable Inn in West Glenwood Springs during the night between Saturday and Sunday.Tom Hendricks, an employee of the Affordable Inn, said a cash box in the desk was taken that included more than $950 in checks.”We had a record of what checks were in the drawer,” he said. “We called all the tenants and had them put a stop on the checks.”The inns have a 24-hour night desk clerk, Hendricks said, but someone could have taken the cash box while that employee was conducting “walk-arounds.”Business burglaries in the area have made headlines recently as local police investigated a string of around 20 Glenwood Springs business burglaries since mid-September. Police believe many of them were related. Aspen businesses were warned after a handful of businesses and restaurants in Carbondale, and then Basalt, were burglarized after a wave of Glenwood Springs business burglaries. A suspected burglar was arrested inside Kmart last week after allegedly setting off an alarm, but police said that suspect probably wasn’t linked to the other crimes.Glenwood Springs police took the report at the Affordable Inn Sunday.
