Glenwood Springs Electric offers new appliance rebates
GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado – The city’s electric utility is about to combine the promotion of energy efficiency with the idea that shopping locally is a worthy endeavor.
Starting on Sept. 1, the Glenwood Springs Electric Department is offering rebates to customers for the purchase of new ENERGY STAR-qualified appliances, if those appliances are bought in local stores.
The rebates are $50 for an ENERGY STAR dishwasher, $75 for an ENERGY STAR clothes washer, and $100 for an ENERGY STAR refrigerator.
The ENERGY STAR program is a joint effort of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Energy.
Rebates apply to appliances purchased on or after Sept. 1, 2010, and appliances must be purchased from a store located within the 81601 zip code.
The program calls for a limit of one rebate per appliance type per customer, and requires that old appliances be disposed of or recycled, and not used as a secondary appliance.
“The City of Glenwood Springs has budgeted $37,500 for appliance rebates. We encourage our electric customers to replace their older appliances with new energy-saving models,” said Shelley Kaup, Glenwood Springs City Council member. “Today’s energy-efficient appliances help households lower their energy bills and help the city meet its clean energy targets,”
Electric customers may obtain a rebate reservation before making their purchase. Rebate reservation forms are available on the City of Glenwood Springs website, http://www.cogs.us, by calling Amy Johnson in the city engineering department at 384-6435, or from local appliance dealers.
Funding is limited, according to organizers, so customers are encouraged to act quickly to reserve their rebate. The reservation is good for 30 days.
Customers should also be sure the model they plan to buy is a qualified ENERGY STAR appliance. The city website includes links to lists of the makes and models of ENERGY STAR qualified dishwashers, clothes washers and refrigerators.
Additional rebates may also be available for these appliances from Recharge Colorado.
