Glenwood Springs Historical Society made the cut by a mile.

Tasked with raising a $20,000 challenge grant with the city by Dec. 31, the help of 63 donors led to the historical society gaining the funds by the end of last week.

“Although the deadline for the historical society to raise the money was December 31, 2023, the challenge was completed in only three months by 63 donors,” Historical Society Executive Director Bill Kight said in a Monday news release. “Though some donations were from outside the Glenwood Springs community, we are very thankful for the amazing support shown by locals. This means we now have adequate funding for the rest of the year.”

The Glenwood Springs Historical Society is also involved in the process of revising its 2017 Strategic Plan with the help of strategic consultant Laura Kirk, the release states. Kirk spent almost three years as the executive director of Glenwood’s Downtown Development Authority, including during the COVID-19 epidemic and helped update the DDA’s strategic plan.

Glenwood Springs is paying for this update.

The Glenwood Springs Historical Society is nearing the end of their Colorado Historic Fund mini grant preparing the Cardiff Coke Ovens for a larger grant to help stabilize and restore the 49 remaining ovens. For more information see http://www.glenwoodhistory.com.
