GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado ” The Office Depot in Glenwood Springs won’t close its doors despite news Wednesday that the company decided to close 112 of its stores in North America and cut around 2,200 jobs.

A manager at the Glenwood Springs location and Office Depot spokeswoman Melissa Perlman both said the Glenwood Springs store wouldn’t be affected by the decision. Perlman said that’s because the store was not identified as one of the “under-performing” stores the company decided to shut down.

She said an Office Depot in Aurora and another in Broomfield will close. There are 13 Office Depots in Colorado.

The company posted losses for the past six quarters as the U.S. recession slowed demand from businesses that buy desk chairs and computers, Bloomberg News reported.

The decision, to be carried out over the next three months, will bring Office Depot down to 1,163 stores in North America. It was reached during a strategic review late last month. The company plans to open about 20 new stores in 2009, down from a previous estimate of 40. Office Depot also plans to close six of 33 distribution facilities on the continent, a news release says.

Office Depot says it has annual sales of around $15.1 billion and employs 49,000 people.
