Glenwood Springs Police Report

Editor’s note: The Glenwood Springs Police Department reports the following incidents and arrests. Summonses or arrests merely indicate an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless found guilty in court.

Distribution, controlled substance: Police were dispatched to a residence in the 700 block of Midland Avenue at 11:05 p.m. on March 25. Officers issued a summons to Jeffrey Eugene Knapp, 26, of Glenwood Springs, for unlawful use of a controlled substance. Police then arrested Dennis John Silva, 46, of Glenwood Springs, for dispensing a schedule II controlled substance and lodged him at the Garfield County Jail.

Violation of restraining order: Police were called to a residence in the 600 block of Bennett Avenue at 5:10 p.m. on March 26 regarding a person who had violated a restraining order. Harry Schreiner, 81, of Glenwood Springs was cited for the violation.



Driving under the influence: Police stopped a motorist for speeding in the 1300 block of Grand Avenue at 11:21 p.m. on March 26. The driver, Trent Braden Hufford, 25, of Morrison was cited for driving under the influence, speeding 10 mph over the limit and possessing less than two ounces of marijuana. A passenger, Douglas James Hinz, 24, of Littleton was cited for possession of less than two ounces of marijuana and of drug paraphernalia.

Trespass: Police contacted two visitors at the Exit 116 Hot Pots at 8:43 p.m. on March 27. Marcy Lynn Chipman, 30, of Bellingham, Wash., and Patrick D. Andrews, 30, of Gillette, Wyo., were cited for trespass.



Driving under the influence: Police contacted a vehicle at 27th and Glen Avenue at 9:22 p.m. on March 27 that had been involved in two accidents. The driver, Werner Conyers, 46, of Woodland Park was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, careless driving and hit and run, and booked at the county jail.

Driving under the influence: Police stopped a motorist for speeding on Two Rivers Plaza Road at 1 a.m. on March 28. Shane William Ishmael, 28, of Glenwood Springs was cited for driving under the influence and speeding 10 mph over the limit.

Warrant arrest: Police were notified of a man at the jail at 9 a.m. on March 28 wanted on a failure to appear warrant from Aurora for an earlier charge of disorderly conduct. Edward K. Hawkins, 41, of Aurora was lodged at the county jail on the warrant.

Loud animal: Elizabeth Raymond, 30, of Glenwood Springs was cited at 9:15 p.m. on March 28 for allowing her dog to run loose and allowing it to disturb the peace in the 1500 block of Grand Avenue.

Driving under the influence: Police stopped a motorist for failing to dim the vehicle’s bright lights at 1:27 a.m. on March 29 in the 400 block of 13th Street. Albert Roy Miles, 33, of Glenwood Springs was cited for driving under the influence, failure to dim high beams, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, driving without proof of insurance and without a valid license.

Trespass: Police contacted a woman on the railroad tracks along Seventh Street at 7:30 a.m. on March 29 and cited Sueann Griffith Phleger, 30, of Parker City, Ore., for trespassing on private property.

Violation of restraining order: Police were again called to a residence in the 600 block of Bennett Avenue at 11 a.m. on March 29 regarding a person who had violated a restraining order. Harry Schreiner, 81, of Glenwood Springs was cited for the violation.

Disorderly conduct: Police were called to a disturbance at a bar in the 700 block of Grand Avenue at 12:08 a.m. on March 30. Jay Cornwell II, 39, address unknown, was arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct, violation of a restraining order and trespass and booked at the county jail.

Disorderly conduct: Police were called to a motel in the 100 block of Sixth Street at 1:10 a.m. on March 30 for a noise complaint. Tyler Lewis Fay, 23, of Glenwood Springs was arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct and obstructing a police officer.

Illegal weapon, narcotics: Police were called to a disturbance at a residence in the 1500 block of Bennett Avenue at 2:34 a.m. on March 30. Jose Abraham Villegas-Lupercio, 28, of Carbondale was found to be intoxicated at the scene. He was arrested on suspicion of possession of an illegal, lethal cutting instrument and narcotics, and for trespass, and was booked at the county jail.

Fighting: Police were called to Walmart at 7:28 p.m. on March 30 for a fight. Officers arrested Damon Shawn Nichols, 42, of Basalt, and Matthew Eugene Hernandez, 43, of Pueblo for fighting and resisting arrest.

Driving under the influence: Police stopped a motorist for weaving on Highway 6 near Devereux Road at 11:59 p.m. on March 30. The driver, Jason Ross Jacoby, 38, of Glenwood Springs was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and failure to drive in a single lane.

Burglary, assault: Police were called to a residence in the 2700 block of Midland Avenue at 2:06 a.m. on March 31 for a possible burglary and theft of property worth $8,400. Officers contacted the suspect, who had allegedly just assaulted the reporting party. Jorge Padilla-Gutierrez, 24, of Glenwood Springs was arrested on suspicion of two counts of burglary, assault and two counts of felony theft, and booked at the county jail.

Open container: Police cited Antonio Chavez, 33, of Glenwood Springs for walking along Highway 6 in West Glenwood at 9:35 p.m. on March 31 carrying an open container of alcohol.

Theft: Police were called to a convenience store in the 100 block of Sixth Street at 12:38 a.m. on April 1 for a shoplifting report. Two men had apparently walked out of the store with a container of beer valued at $17 without paying. One of the suspects was located. Henry Benites, 29, of Glenwood Springs was arrested and booked at the county jail for petty theft.

Throwing objects: Officers cited Tracy Wolff, 49, of Basalt for throwing objects in the 1900 block of Blake Avenue at 6:40 p.m. on April 1.

Warrant arrests: Dennis Michael Dean, 46, of Glenwood Springs was arrested for violation of a restraining order and a warrant when contacted by police in the 700 block of Grand Avenue at 7 p.m. on April 1.

Officers arrested Daniel Lee Kessler, 28, of Glenwood Springs on a warrant at 7:40 p.m. on April 1.

Driving under the influence: Police stopped a motorist at Sixth and Laurel at 12:45 a.m. on April 2 for obstructed vision. Joshua Hutchinson Moylan, 33, of Silt was cited for driving under the influence and obstructed vision.

Fighting: Police were called to a bar in the 700 block of Cooper Avenue at 11:15 p.m. on April 2 for a fight among three men. Officers cited Anthony Michael Bishop, 33, of Glenwood Springs, Cavin Richard Nicholson, 26, of New Castle and Joseph John Ceremuga III, 30, of New Castle for fighting.
