Glenwood Springs Police Report
Editor’s note: The Glenwood Springs Police Department reports the following incidents and arrests. Summonses or arrests merely indicate an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless found guilty in court.
Domestic violence: Officers were called to a disturbance in the 51000 block of Highway 6 at 5 a.m. on Dec. 1. The officer reported that a man at the scene had damaged a telephone. Seth Dale Barrett, 30, of Glenwood Springs was arrested on suspicion of obstructing telephone service and domestic violence and booked at the county jail.
Theft: Officers responded to Walmart at 7 p.m. on Dec. 1 for a theft report. Dylan S. Kemp, 20, of Glenwood Springs was arrested on suspicion of felony and misdemeanor theft charges, and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Lauren E. Harrison, 25, of Glenwood Springs was arrested on suspicion of theft, theft by receiving and conspiracy to commit theft. On Dec. 6, a third person suspected in the case, Derek John Panter, 20 was located and arrested on suspicion of theft, conspiracy, possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of a court order.
Driving while impaired: Police stopped a motorist for speeding and weaving at 1:15 a.m. on Dec. 2 at Sixth and Maple. Juan Ponce Zapata, 41, of Glenwood Springs was arrested on suspicion of driving while ability impaired, driving with expired plates and an invalid license, speeding, failure to drive in a single lane and possession of drug paraphernalia. Later that day, police learned that Zapata had used a phony identity when he was arrested, which he admitted to when contacted at the jail. He was then charged with criminal impersonation.
Assault: Police were called to a fight in the 800 block of Grand Avenue at 1:11 a.m. on Dec. 2. Joseph Carl Ottemen, 29, of Avon was arrested on suspicion of assault and obstructing a police officer.
Identity theft: Officers were called to investigate a report of fraudulent checks being passed. They later contacted a man attempting to cash a fraudulent check at a business on Mel Ray Road at 2:42 p.m. on Dec. 3. Justin Brooks Mathis, 31, of Rifle was arrested on suspicion of possession of identity theft tools, criminal theft, impersonation, forgery, possession of a forged instrument and a $2,500 warrant for failure to comply in a marijuana case, and booked at the county jail.
Trespass: Police were called to Colorado Mountain College Blake Avenue building at 5:50 p.m. on Dec. 3. Robert Saul Bogner, 70, of Carbondale was cited for trespass after having been warned to stay off the campus.
Driving under restraint: Police stopped a motorist at Sixth and Laurel at 10:10 p.m. on Dec. 4 for expired plates. Brandon Elias Cambron, 20, of Clifton was cited for possession of marijuana and driving without a valid license, and the vehicle was impounded.
Fighting: Police were called to a bar in the 700 block of Grand Avenue at 2 a.m. on Dec. 5 for a fight. Officers had to break up the fight and then cited three men and arrested another. Cited for fighting were Bradley Shuler, 38, of Erie, Robert Corky Bishop, 42, of Colton, Calif., and Mathias Gonzano Garcia, 28, of Whittier, Calif. Jeffrey Scott Carlson, 31, of Glenwood Springs, was cited for fighting and arrested on a $219 Pitkin County warrant for failure to appear.
Warrant arrest: Joshua Seonedward Vanseters, 27, of New Castle turned himself in to a bail bondsman at 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 5. He was wanted on a $500 Garfield County warrant for failure to appear in an assault case.
Driving under the influence: Police stopped a motorist for speeding in the 2500 block of South Glen Avenue at 1:16 a.m. on Dec. 8. Jerrod Ray Barr, 30, of Basalt was cited for speeding and driving under the influence.
Theft: Police took a report about a man who had stolen items from a vehicle in the 1200 block of Sprucewood Lane at 3:14 a.m. on Dec. 8. Olman Flores Alvarez, 29, of Glenwood Springs was arrested on suspicion of trespass and theft. When he was being booked into the county jail, he was also found to be in possession of drugs, adding a third charge to his tally.
Criminal mischief: Officers were called to a disturbance in the 4100 block of Sunset Ridge Court at 4 a.m. on Dec. 8. A man and women were present in the home, and the man had destroyed several items. Rene Adrian Castillo-Meraz, 29, of Glenwood Springs was arrested on suspicion of criminal mischief, tampering and domestic violence, and on a $5,650 warrant for failure to appear.
Marijuana: Police stopped a motorist for speeding in the 2000 block of Grand Avenue at 11:41 p.m. on Dec. 8. Dylan Mangurian, 18, of Glenwood Springs was cited for speeding and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Tailgating: Officers reported to an accident scene in the 51000 block of Highway 6 at 11:52 a.m. on Dec. 9, One of the drivers provided a false name and had no driver’s license. Juan Ruiz, 27, of Glenwood Springs was cited for following too closely, driving without a valid license and false reporting.
