Editor’s note: The Glenwood Springs Police Department reports the following incidents and arrests. Summonses or arrests merely indicate an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless found guilty in court.
Child abuse: At 3:51 p.m. on Jan. 25, police received a report of a 1-year old and a 2-year-old who were left home alone in the 1500 block of Blake Avenue. Police were able to contact the mother of the children, Veronica Martinez Puieco, 25, of Glenwood Springs, and issued her a summons for child abuse-negligence.
Driving under the influence: At 9:50 p.m. on Jan. 25, police were advised of a careless driving, possible REDDI, vehicle in the Target parking lot. Police initially were unable to locate the vehicle, however, a little later, EMS were called to the lot for a male passed out behind the wheel of a running vehicle. Police arrived on scene and noted severe signs of alcohol intoxication on the male driver. Jacob Matthew Carr-Costello, 26, of Gypsum, was placed under arrest and later lodged at the Garfield County Jail for suspicion of driving under the influence.
Driving under the influence, underage drinking: At 11:33 p.m. on Jan. 25, police contacted a vehicle for speeding in the 100 block of Sixth Street. Upon contact with the driver, police observed signs of intoxication. Kristina Rose Abernathy, 23, of Greeley, was issued a summons for suspicion of DUI and speeding and was released. Passengers in the vehicle, Cameron S. Grush, 20, of Bayfield, Dwayne Michael Lizer, 20, of Grand Junction, Garrett Franklin Kenney, 18, of Westminster, Kevin J. Lizer, 18, of St. Michaels, AZ, and Zachary James Stone, 18, of Bayfield, were also cited for underage drinking.
Menacing: On 12:49 p.m. on Jan. 26, police received a report of domestic violence that had occurred at a residence in the 2100 block of Grand Avenue. Police arrested Leslie B Durkee, Jr. for the charges of menacing (domestic violence) and lodged him at the county jail.
Violation of a restraining order: At 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 26, police were called to Valley View Hospital for an intoxicated man who was causing a disturbance. The man was found to have a restraining order barring possessing or consuming alcoholic beverages. Raymond Arnold Bedwell, Jr., 49, of Glenwood Springs was lodged in Garfield County Jail for the violation.

Over 75,000 hikers visited Hanging Lake during this year’s peak season. Via signage, the city hopes to point more of those hikers also in the direction of downtown Glenwood Springs.
