Glenwood Springs Police Report

Editor’s note: The Glenwood Springs Police Department reports the following incidents and arrests. Summonses or arrests merely indicate an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless found guilty in court.

Violation of a restraining order: At 8:30 p.m. on March 19, police issued a summons to Paulette Durica in the 100 block of Eighth Street for a violation of protection order.

Assault, harassment: At 1:31 a.m. on March 20, police were advised of a domestic violence incident that was occurring at a residence in the 700 block of Grand Avenue. Police contacted the victim and she advised them that her boyfriend had punched her in the face and attempted to take her phone away. Police then contacted and arrested Michael Shawn Easley, 40, of Glenwood Springs, for the incident and charged him with assault in the third degree, harassment, and obstruction of telephone service/domestic violence and lodged him at the Garfield Count Jail.

Assault: At 3:31 p.m. on March 21, police responded to an assault that had just occurred in the 300 block of Park Drive. Officers contacted two women involved in the assault. Erika N. Heaphey, 18, of Glenwood Springs, was arrested for assault and lodged at the county jail without incident.

Negligence: At 6:34 p.m. on March 20, a citizen observed a child, approximately 3 years old, running into the street at Blake Avenue and 10th Street. The person collected the child and called the police. Shortly after the police arrived the boy’s mother arrived on scene. She admitted to an officer this was the third time her son had gotten out of the house. The witness stated this was the second time he had seen the boy running about. The mother, Nancy Rosas-Ramirez, 28, of Glenwood Springs, was charged with child abuse and issued a summons.

Driving under the influence: At 12:20 a.m. on March 21, police contacted a vehicle at Sixth Street and Grand Avenue after it committed a traffic violation. The driver, Jesse Lee Voorhees, 24, of Grand Junction, showed many signs of being under the influence (alcohol), had a cancelled/denied license and no proof of insurance for the vehicle. He was issued a summons into Garfield County Court on charges of: improper left turn, suspicion of driving under influence (alcohol), no proof of insurance and driving under restraint.

Assault, restraining order violation: At 12:53 a.m. on March 22, police were called to a residence in the 2000 block of Blake Avenue for a disturbance. Upon arrival, it was found that a man had a protection order stating he shall not possess or consume alcohol and he had admitted to an officer that he had drank. Marc Daniel Merchant, 28, of Glenwood Springs, was arrested for violation of a protection order and lodged at the Garfield County Jail. Laura Sikorski, 36, of Glenwood Springs, had scratched Merchant and was issued a summons for simple assault.
