Glenwood Springs police report

Editor’s note: The Glenwood Springs Police Department reports the following incidents and arrests. Summonses or arrests merely indicate an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless found guilty in court.

Possession: Police responded to a local business in the 100 block of Market Street at 11:38 a.m. on Nov. 7 for a call of a suspicious male. Officers learned that Matthew Tyler Gering, 22, of Basalt had marijuana, drug paraphernalia and two illegal concealed weapons on his person. Gering was arrested and lodged at the Garfield County Jail.

Loose dog: Police noticed a dog running at large at 3 p.m. on Nov. 7 in a park in the 700 block of Devereux Road. The dog was taken to C.A.R.E. unit for safekeeping and later released to the owner, Andrea Sierra Oates, 34, of Glenwood Springs, who was given a summons to municipal court for an animal at large.



Loose dog: Police were dispatched to Grand Avenue and Tenth Street for a report of a dog at large at 3 p.m. on Nov. 7. The dog was taken into custody, then returned to owner. Kana Sue Brevig, 40, of Glenwood Springs was cited for an animal at large.

Drinking in public: Police saw an adult male drinking a beer can in the 3000 block of S. Glen Avenue at 3:32 p.m. on Nov. 7. Roger Howe Jr., 53, of Glenwood Springs, was arrested for drinking in public and possession of an open container. Howe was released with a summons.



Theft: Police took a report of a shoplifter in custody at a business in the 1000 block of Grand Avenue at 4:12 p.m. on Nov. 7. Police arrested Danny Steven Hughes, 45, of Glenwood Springs, for petty theft. Hughes was issued a summons and was released.

Warrant arrest, public urination: At 11:55 p.m. on Nov. 7, police observed John Fredrick Bennett, 48, of Glenwood Springs, urinating in public in the 1000 block of Grand Avenue. Bennett also had an open alcoholic container and an active warrant. He was lodged in the Garfield County Jail.

Driving under the influence: Police pulled over a vehicle at 6:38 p.m. on Nov. 8 at Midland Avenue and Wulfsohn Road after it was involved in a traffic compliant; the driver, Kent Stuart Jolley, 55, of Glenwood Springs, also failed to drive in a single lane. Jolley showed signs of being under the influence of alcohol and/or prescription drugs. He was arrested and issued a summons to Garfield County Court.

Disorderly conduct: Police took a report of a man that was harassing three females at 2:37 a.m. on Nov. 10 in the 700 block of Bennett Ave. Mike James Moore, 36, of Glenwood Springs, was issued a summons for disorderly conduct and released.

Theft: Police were called to a store at 4:55 p.m. on Nov. 10 in the 50000 block of Highway 6 where an employee had allegedly stolen approximately $2,000 worth of money and items. After investigation, Teresa Ann Diaz, 41, of Silt, was arrested and lodged at the Garfield County Jail.

Driving under the influence, child abuse: Police responded to a report of a civil disturbance at 10:18 p.m. on Nov. 10 at a residence in the 2000 block of Grand Avenue. After investigation, Porifiria Zarate-Castro, 30, of Glenwood Springs, was arrested for third-degree assault (domestic), DUI, child abuse and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. She was lodged in Garfield County Jail.

Driving under the influence: Police stopped a vehicle at 2:11 a.m. on Nov. 11 in the 1000 block of Grand Avenue for driving the wrong way down a one-way street. After further investigation, Jose Daniel Flores-Sanchez, 37, of El Jebel, was arrested for driving the wrong way on a one-way street, driving without a valid license, and driving under the influence of alcohol. Flores-Sanchez was lodged at the Garfield County Jail.

Possession: Police responded to a medical call at 12:29 p.m. on Nov. 11 at a residence in the 700 block of Blake Avenue. Upon investigation, Debra Schweizer, 57, of Glenwood Springs, was arrested for possession of marijuana. Schweizer was later released on the summons.

Obstruction, trespassing: Police responded to a report of trespassing in the 400 block of N. River Street at 3:15 a.m. on Nov. 12. Two adult males were arrested and lodged in Garfield County Jail for trespassing. Chad Lawrence Lenz, 24, of Colorado Springs, was also charged with obstructing a police officer.

Harassment, intent to distribute: Police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at a residence in the 400 block of 23rd Street at 9:36 a.m. on Nov. 12. Upon further investigation, officers arrested Patrick Henry Gerig, 21, of Glenwood Springs, for harassment with domestic violence; driving without a valid license; no proof of insurance; fictitious plates; intent to distribute marijuana or concentrate; possession of drug paraphernalia; and possession of marijuana between 2 and 8 ounces.
