GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado ” The world’s largest coffee shop chain said its locations in Glenwood Springs and nearby “may” be affected, but a list of which stores will close isn’t yet finalized.

Starbucks Coffee Co. announced Wednesday it plans to close about 300 under-performing stores, 200 of which are in the U.S. The company also said it would cut 6,700 jobs after first-quarter profit fell more than expected. This year’s closures are in addition to the 600 stores and 3,600 jobs Starbucks said it would get rid of last year, Bloomberg News said.

“The store closure list is being finalized and will be available after impacted partners have been notified,” a Starbucks Coffee Co. spokeswoman said. “Though we do know our Glenwood Springs area stores may be impacted, we do not at this time have specific details about numbers of partners or stores that will be impacted in the area by these announcements.”

Decisions about which stores will close are expected to be made by the end of the fiscal year, Sept. 30.

Starbucks said it would offer laid-off employees severance packages based on their position and time working for the company. It will close locations that haven’t been profitable and are not expected to do better in the future.
