Glenwood’s a great place for a road trip

GLENWOOD SPRINGS ” Glenwood Springs is once again hitting the big time.

This afternoon, the cameras will be rolling as a cable documentary shoots part of an episode in our fair city.

“Road Show” is a 20-part series being produced by Pangolin Pictures, a New York City-based production company. The series will begin airing on The Travel Channel later this year, and the episode featuring Glenwood will be aired next winter, though no firm date has been set.

Program coordinator Mariah Wilson said the show is about traveling around the United States and Canada, from one renowned city to another, and seeing the sights along the way.

The episode featuring Glenwood Springs is part of a winter road trip from Santa Fe, N.M., to Aspen.

Wilson said the producers try to feature a historical element ” in Glenwood’s case, Doc Holliday’s grave, the Hotel Colorado and the Hot Springs Pool ” in each episode.

“We’re getting a lot accomplished in Glenwood,” she said.

The show is hosted by Steve Merkel and Tina Maddigan, who just finished a run in the musical “Mama Mia” on Broadway.

Kjell Mitchell, manager of the Hot Springs Pool, is expecting crews and talent to show up at the pool around 2 p.m. today. He said associate producer Joey Allen told him Merkel and Maddigan are planning to take a walking tour around the lodge and pool in robes. They’ll end by peeling them off for a jump into the pool.
