Grace Susan Bates

Grace Susan Bates of Rifle died Sunday, May 4, 2003, at Clagett Memorial Hospital in Rifle. She was 70.

She was born April 17, 1933, in Glenwood Springs to Hattie Vanover and Samuel Todd.

Ms. Bates was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of Rifle.



She enjoyed golf, bowling and gambling.

Ms. Bates was preceded in death by a brother, William Todd; and by a sister, Dorothy Mathews.



She is survived by sons and daughter-in-law Denny Bates of Nashville, Tenn., and Charles and Vicki Todd of Rifle; by daughters and sons-in-law Judy and Phil Adams of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Karen and Casey Peter of Rifle; by brothers and sisters-in-law Samuel and Earlene Todd of Flowener, Ariz., Robert and Joyce Todd of Sacramento, Calif., and Eugene and Regis Todd of Grand Junction; by a sister and brother-in-law, Florence and Harry Williams of Grand Junction; by grandchildren Jeffery, Taylor, Chris, Steven, Teresa, Casey, Sabrina, April and Skyler; and by one great-grandchild, Caton.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 8, at the Rifle Funeral Home Chapel, 1400 Access Road in Rifle, with the Revs. David and Kathryn York of Rifle Christian Fellowship Church officiating.

Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Rifle.

Pallbearers will be Clint Hostettler, Chris Munsell, Richard Croisant, Chris Pladson, Don Parker and Pat Cooley.

Rifle Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.
