Grace V. Parker

Grace V. Parker of Carbondale, died of natural causes on Wednesday, April 27, 2005, at Heritage Park Care Center in Carbondale. She was 97.Mrs. Parker was born Jan. 19, 1908, to James Madison Jones and Minor E. Jones (Wallace) in Arlington, Texas. She married Olyn Parker on Feb. 19, 1927, in Texas.Mrs. Parker and her husband, Olyn, owned Swiss Village Resort, now Avalanche Ranch, on the Crystal River, making many friends and faithfully serving returning customers.Mrs. Parker played a leading role in establishing the Church of Christ of Glenwood Springs in the early 1940s. She was a member of the Carbondale Study Club.Survivors include her son Wallace (Naomi) Parker of Carbondale; daughter Wilma Meaks of Fort Worth, Texas; seven granddaughters, 16 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her husband, Olyn M. Parker.Visitation will be from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, April 29, at Farnum-Holt Funeral Home, 405 W. Seventh St., Glenwood Springs. There will be a funeral service at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 30, at the Church of Christ in Glenwood Springs, with the Rev. Mark Haply officiating. The interment will be at the Evergreen Cemetery in Carbondale.Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of Christ Building Fund, P.O. Box 9, Glenwood Springs, CO 81602.Arrangements have been entrusted to Farnum-Holt Funeral Home.
