Grand River board appoints new member

Michael Mosby was appointed to assume a vacancy on the Grand River Hospital District board of directors after Dr. Bruce Richards resigned in July.

Mosby ran for a spot on the board in last year’s tight race, but lost by a slim margin.

The GRHD board oversees the operations of the Grand River Hospital District, a special tax district that governs the Grand River Medical Center, the E. Dene Moore Care Center, both in Rifle, and the Battlement Mesa Medical Center, which is a clinic in Parachute.

Two other candidates applied for the open spot. Board president Bruce Mills said the board interviewed all three candidates and decided unanimously to appoint Mosby.

“He’s got a real passion for the district,” Mills said of Mosby. “He has a real sense of community.”

Mosby said he wanted to be on the board because he has spent his entire career working in and with hospitals around the state. He recently retired from Siemens Medical Systems. He said he always traveled for work and missed being part of the community surrounding the hospitals he served.

“My goal is to make (Grand River) the best little hospital around, a place people want to come,” Mosby said. “The best way we can improve that hospital is to get people talking about it in a positive way. If people have any issues, I want them to call me.”
