Grand Valley boys rout Olathe

With three players reaching double figures in scoring, Grand Valley cruised to a 60-41 boys basketball win over visiting Olathe on Saturday.

Omar Melendrez led the Cardinals with 16 points, followed by Trevor Smith with 12 and Matt Donello with 10.

Dylan Walters chipped in with eight points and eight rebounds as Grand Valley improved to 14-4 overall and to 9-3 in 3A Western Slope League play.



Richard Tafoya paced Olathe (7-10 overall, 5-6 in the 3A WSL) with 14 points. Carston Byers scored 10.

On Friday night, the Cardinals lost to Gunnison in overtime, 58-53.



Melendrez led the Cardinals with 11 points, seven rebounds and five steals in that one. Walters added nine points, 10 boards and four blocks.

Bryce Johnston paced Gunnison with 18 points. Daniel Dove scored 10.

Outscoring Grand Valley by a 20-5 count in the first quarter and never letting up, Olathe’s girls slammed the Cardinals, 61-35, in Saturday’s girls game.

Grand Valley dropped to 7-11 overall and to 7-5 in the 3A WSL with the loss.

Olathe improved to 14-3 overall and to 10-1 in league play.
