PARACHUTE, Colorado – Roaring Fork’s football team is riding high after picking up its first win of 2009, knocking off Basalt, 23-20, on the road last week.

The Rams will train their sights on Grand Valley tonight. In a trip to Aspen last Friday, the Cardinals were turned away by a lopsided count of 54-13 in a game billed as one of the 2A Western Slope League’s marquee matchups.

It didn’t exactly live up to the hype.

Both Roaring Fork and Grand Valley still have a mathematical chance at landing one of Class 2A’s wild-card playoff spots. They’d need a third-place league finish to be eligible and, at 1-2 in league, both are two games behind the league-leading trio of Aspen, Olathe and Gunnison. All are 3-0.

PEACH VALLEY, Colorado – With Gunnison dominating the time-of-possession battle and running the ball all over the field, Coal Ridge saw its losing streak reach three games last week.

Tonight, the Titans look to rerail their season at home against Basalt.

Last weekend, the Longhorns fell to 2-4 with a 23-20 loss to visiting Roaring Fork.

ASPEN, Colorado – Defending 2A state champion Olathe visits Aspen tonight in a clash of heavyweights. In all likelihood, this game will decide who wins the 2A WSL.

Olathe steamrolled Cedaredge, 55-0, last week and has outscored opponents 255-34 on the year.

Aspen’s been similarly unmerciful to its foes in 2009, outgunning opponents by a count of 249-65.
