Gray’s comments affront to human dignity

Dear Editor,

In his letter of June 20, Richard Veit misses the key point regarding the commentaries of myself and others concerning Sue Gray.

Our objections (or a least my own) are not at all to do with “opinions” or “political debate,” and far from any version of “hate mail.” It is fine for Sue or anybody else to have and communicate any opinion whatsoever about politics or anything else. This is a defining aspect of our system of government.

What is not OK (in my view) is making up facts, blatant ignorance of well-documented events, and subsequent attempted propagation of false and absurd historical analogies as definitive truths.

I personally find Sue’s endeavor in this regard to be an insult to the individual spirit, antithetical to the pursuit of knowledge or truth or piety, and a general affront to any sense of human dignity.

Those who tolerate Sue are abettors of ignorance and mediocrity.
