FRISCO, Colorado – A more than respectable showing at the state skiing championships has Colorado Rocky Mountain School Nordic coach Nick Brown dreaming of a bright future for his young team.

Chief among his squad’s state successes were two top-10 finishes for Gus Griffin.

After finishing fifth in Thursday’s classic race, the junior returned to finish eighth in Friday’s boys skate race at the Frisco Nordic Center. Griffin clocked in at 15 minutes, 23.7 seconds on the five-kilometer skate course, which was powdered with fresh snow.

Griffin’s teammate, Sam Kaufman, finished 44th (18:12.5).

Jacqueline Larouche led the CRMS girls with an 11th-place showing. She clocked in at 18:52.1. Florentina Arthuber nabbed 32nd (22:35.4) and Maria Mork was 33rd (22:41.2).

“I am proud of the progress the team made this year,” Brown said, “and I think it puts us in an excellent position to build on heading into the next season.”
