EAGLE ” A jury found Charles Gross guilty of first-degree murder, two counts of attempted first-degree murder and second-degree assault Tuesday afternoon.

Family members were hugging each other and crying outside the courtroom.

“He did a crime and he has to pay for his crime,” Eliseo Madrid said through an interpreter.

Charles Gross shot and killed Maria Madrid as she and her husband Eliseo Madrid and their son, then 14-year-old Joel Madrid, were leaving a campsite north of Dotsero Oct. 7, 2005.
