Groundbreaking ceremony at Waldorf School this morning
Students with shovels will take the lead at a groundbreaking ceremony for the new east wing at the Waldorf School on the Roaring Fork near Carbondale, taking place at 8:30 a.m. Friday, May 8.
The school is beginning construction on the new wing, which will house the middle school classrooms, a handwork room, music room and science lab. A blessing will be offered by the children at the ceremony.
The new building will keep with the school’s tradition of using straw bale construction and sustainable design, including solar thermal heating provided by Solar Flair with grant support from the Community Office for Resource Efficiency.
Jeff Dickinson of Energy and Sustainable Design is the lead architect; Chuck Cole of Cole West is the lead contractor; and Keith Brand of Terralink Structures in the lead for framing. A community bale raising is expected in June.
