GSHS names assistant principal

Bobby MagillPost Independent Staff

Gayla Rowe will be the next assistant principal at Glenwood Springs High School. Currently teaching drama and English and coaching the speech team, Rowe will begin her new job this summer. She was hired after an internal and external candidate search that comprised teachers, administrators, parents and students. Rowe has 15 years of teaching experience behind her including five years at GSHS. Before returning home to Glenwood, Rowe taught in schools in Westminster and Thornton. “This is home,” she said of Glenwood Springs. “It’s in my blood, and I’m ready to go into the next step of my career, and I want to do it here.”A 1984 GSHS graduate, Rowe has a master’s degree in education and received a bachelor’s degree in social sciences and education from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley in 1990. Her family has lived in the Glenwood Springs area for five generations – over 100 years, she said. She said that she decided to return to Glenwood from the Denver area after she had children. “I purposely moved home to raise my kids here,” she said. “It’s a great place to graduate from.” Departing GSHS Assistant Principal Gerald Gabbard resigned earlier this year.
