Harold Dean KeyAugust 31, 1933 – August 25, 2004
Harold Dean Key, 70, passed away at home with his family by his side.He was born Aug. 31, 1933, in Grand Valley to Harold F. and Christine A (Carpenter) Key. He spent most of his childhood in Fruita. He served in the Korean War as a corporal in the U.S. Army. He married Phyllis Joan Alexander on Feb. 14, 1956, and they moved to La Sal, Utah, where he worked as a uranium miner before moving to Moab in 1961, until he retired in 1988.Harold loved hunting, fishing, trapping, gardening and sitting around a campfire visiting with his friends and family, but his grandchildren were his pride and joy.He is survived by his wife and four children, Cindy Hirschfeld (Rick) of Moab, Ellen Hout (Gary) of Monticello, Utah, Wes Key (Judy) and Jim Key (Teresa) of Grand Junction; 14 grandchildren; four brothers, Kenneth (Corky) (JoAnn) of Moab, Larry (Sharon) of Lyons, Kan., Jerry (Dolly) of Denver and Bill (Joanne) of Moab; three sisters, Elva Rogers of Grand Junction, Betty Ketcherside of Fruita and Mona Lorimar (Glen) of Fruita; and numerous nieces and nephews.Three brothers, Howard, Robert and Byron, and one sister, Jeannie, preceded him in death.Services took place on Aug. 28 at the Old City Park in Moab.
