Harvey Phillip Renftle

Harvey Phillip Renftle of Rifle died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, at Clagett Memorial Hospital in Rifle. He was 85.

He was born June 29, 1917, in Carrol, Iowa, to Ima Mae (McLachlin) and Charles P. Renftle. He grew up in Carbondale.

Mr. Renftle serves in the U.S. Army during World War II.



He worked as a farmer, and lived in Marysville, Ohio.

He married Elsie Smith in 1943 in Mississippi. She preceded him in death.



Later, he was married to Claire Renftle. She also preceded him in death.

Mr. Renftle loved to dance, and he enjoyed mechanics. His favorite phrases were, “By Gol,” and “Oh, my.”

He is survived by a son, William Renftle of Marysville, Ohio; by sisters Lillian Opal Berges and Kathryn Mae Grange of Glenwood Springs, and Ruth A. Scarrow of New Castle; by five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 23, at the Farnum Holt Chapel, 405 W. 7th St., in Glenwood Springs, with the Rev. Scott Vice officiating.

Burial will follow at Rosebud Cemetery in Glenwood Springs.

Farnum Holt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
