Help commissioners make right decision on Prehm Ranch road

John Hoffmann

Dear Editor,

The Garfield County Commissioners will be reconsidering their deeding of the valuable County Road 163 to the developers of the gated community of the Prehm Ranch. The 60-foot-wide, 1.5-mile-long extension in Cardiff continues a path that will connect Carbondale and Glenwood Springs on the west side of the Roaring Fork.

This valuable ped/pedal connection should remain in public hands for future generations of personal-power commuters.

The Glenwood Springs River Commission and Carbondale Trails Committee will be hosting a walk/ride-through at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 14. We meet at the Glenwood Springs rodeo grounds near the airport, and with luck will commute the 1.5 miles to Oak Lane in Westbank and back.

Come help the commissioners make the right decision for the public this time. We have been given a second chance and need to use it to show strong need and will for trails in Garfield County and this valuable connection in particular.

The meeting with the commissioners re: Prehm easement is tentatively set for 10:15 a.m. on Aug. 19 in the New Courthouse Plaza, across the street from the old courthouse. We need lots of people to express an interest in this.

See you there,

John Hoffmann
