HER House much needed by region
Dear Editor,
Congratulations to Carrie Click for her article about HER House, the proposed recovery center for women undergoing treatment for substance abuse.
We all know someone who suffers from drug or alcohol abuse, yet it is the dirty little secret no one wants to talk about. The fact that this one small facility in Glenwood Springs must serve a 10-county area shows how little attention this problem is receiving.
Women who want to overcome their addictions should not be forced to choose between their children and recovery. They should have a safe, respectable environment that fosters the goals of HER House: Hope, Education, and Renewal.
Ms. Click has certainly helped with the goal of education, but much more needs to be done to create greater public understanding of the tremendous need for such places as HER House.
