Hey kids! It’s back-to-school time!

Back to school.

Those three little words have the potential to strike fear and loathing into otherwise well adjusted children. At the same time, they engender excitement and anticipation.

Regional public schools from Basalt to Parachute are gearing up for another year. Starting dates differ for each of the districts.

The first district to head back to class is Garfield County Re-2. This district encompasses public schools in New Castle, Silt and Rifle. They begin classes Tuesday, Aug. 20.

Students and parents should have received registration packets last May regarding the new school year. Starting today, regular school office hours will resume. The following schools can be reached for questions and new student registration information:

Garfield Re-2 School District

Roy Moore Elementary – 625-7850

Rifle

Esma Lewis Elementary School – 625-7650

Wamsley Elementary School – 625-7950

Rifle High School – 625-7725

Schools in Parachute, Garfield County School District 16, begin classes on Aug. 27. Students at Grand Valley High School have a special perk: They return to a shining new school for the 2002-03 academic year.

Grand Valley High School – 285-7561

Roaring Fork Re-1 schools are the last to head back to class. Public schools from Basalt to Glenwood Springs reopen on Sept. 3.

New students in that district should bring immunization records when registering, starting Aug. 21.

Bridges High School, a 60-student school-without-walls, will hold registration at Colorado Mountain College’s Glenwood Springs Center on Aug. 21, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Those interested in more information on this nontraditional school should call principal Mike Blair at 384-5995.
