Highway 82 resurfacing project starts Monday near El Jebel

GARFIELD COUNTY, Colorado ” Colorado Department of Transportation crews will begin resurfacing Highway 82 near the El Jebel/Willits area on Tuesday, Sept. 2.

The resurfacing work will include a 1-inch leveling course of asphalt overlaid with another 2 inches of asphalt for the wearing course. This project includes guardrail and signing improvements, and pavement markings.

Traffic will be reduced to a single lane through the work zones during non-peak periods of traffic for the duration of the project; CDOT anticipates completion by late fall 2008. During peak periods of traffic (from 6:30-9 a.m. in the eastbound lanes, and from 3:30-6 p.m. in the westbound lanes, Monday through Friday) there will not be any construction activities or lane closures. Hours of work will be daylight hours, Monday through Friday, and some weekends as possible. Speeds through the work zone will be reduced to 35 mph for the safety purposes.

CDOT has contracted Elam Construction Inc., of Grand Junction, for the $3.68 million project. For information on other CDOT projects statewide, log onto www. cotrip.org.
