Highway projects expected to cause traffic delays this week

Several short-term highway projects will result in traffic delays for motorists this week due to lane closures.

Colorado Department of Transportation maintenance crews are undertaking several rotomilling and paving projects, including one from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday on Highway 82 at the main Glenwood Springs Interstate 70 interchange at Exit 116. The work will reduce traffic to a single upvalley lane for about 400 feet from the traffic signal at Sixth and Laurel streets to the Grand Avenue Bridge.

Today, crews will work from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on downvalley lanes of Highway 82 from 20th to 23rd streets in Glenwood Springs.

On Thursday, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., crews may repave the bridge at State Highway 133 near Highway 82 in Carbondale. CDOT is first trying to determine if the work should be put off for now because the bridge is receiving extra use due to ongoing work that has closed the bridge over the Crystal River on County Road 108 in Carbondale.

If the work on the Highway 133 bridge is delayed, crews would do interim patching before winter and repave it next spring.

Crews were repaving the bridge over Elk Creek on Highway 6 in New Castle on Monday and planned to complete the work that day.
