Hiker found safe in Four Mile area

CARBONDALE, Colorado – A 75-year-old Wisconsin man was located safe and sound at a residence on upper Four Mile Road Tuesday morning after a night out in the North Thompson Creek area.

Pitkin County officials were alerted around 6 p.m. Monday of a lost hiker in the area west of Carbondale, Pitkin County Deputy Jason Kasper said in a press release.

Ernie Rikli, 75, of Ridgeway, Wis., was hiking with friends Monday when he became separated from his group, according to the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office.

Rikli was able to call for help by cell phone, and the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office and Mountain Rescue Aspen responded with two search teams at 8 p.m.

The search was unsuccessful and was postponed at approximately 4 a.m. Tuesday until dawn, Kasper said.

Rikli was located at 10 a.m. Tuesday at a private residence on Four Mile Road in southeastern Garfield County, after hiking through the night, Kasper said in the release.
