The New Castle Lions will host the annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, Nov.17, at the New Castle Community Center, 423 W. Main. The Lions will provide roasted turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, sweet potatoes, several varieties of dressing and beverages. Guests are invited to bring a side dish or dessert. Donations of canned food for LIFT-UP will also be accepted. Entertainment by the Smuggler Mountain Boys. Stock your pantry with home-made goodies and garden fresh canned goods from the country kitchen. Enjoy hot cinnamon rolls and beverage from 8:30-10 a.m. and then stay for lunch – soup, beverage and dessert from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Raffle tickets will be available for an authentic American Girl Doll complete with wardrobe, book, and handcrafted decorated cradle. Pack shoe boxes with gifts such as small toys, personal care items, stickers, school supplies and hard candy to be distributed to children in more than 100 countries who are suffering from natural disaster, war, terrorism, disease, famine or poverty.
In 2011, the Roaring Fork Valley contributed more than 1,000 shoe boxes. This year, hope to collect 1,250 shoe boxes from area families, kids, churches, schools and civic organizations by Sunday, Nov. 18.

Visit the Holiday Bazaar at the Elks Lodge in West Glenwood from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 1. A huge variety of home crafted items available for Christmas presents along with baked goods, soup and drink. Get a photo with Santa just in time for your holiday cards. Proceeds from the Elks sales will go to YouthZone.
The Eagles Lodge, 312 Seventh St., Glenwood Springs, will host its annual Christmas Boutique on Saturday, Dec. 8. Vendors are needed. Table rental is $15, all proceeds will go to the GSHS Scholarship fund. Contact Amanda Schard at 319-8753 to book a spot.
