Honoring the lives of five trees

Five spruce trees are being removed as part of the construction of the new Carbondale Library for the safety of patrons and the new building.

A ceremony is planned to honor the lives of the trees at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 21, at the new library site at Third and Sopris. Everyone is welcome; meet at the flagpole.

The Library District is committed to creating enjoyable library spaces in the outside areas surrounding the buildings. As part of the construction, 32 new trees will be planted. The spruce trees will be milled and dried locally for use as furniture and finishes on site.
