House candidate ‘just an average guy’

Democrat Sam Robinson, a retired Battlement Mesa resident, will run for the 57th State House, which encompasses west Garfield, Rio Blanco, Moffat, Routt, Jackson and Grand counties.”Senior citizens haven’t had good representation in our state government, and I’m running to change that,” the 75-year old Robinson said in a press release.Robinson, is a former constructural engineer and a 50-year Union member. He served in the Korean War and is a member of the Veterans of Foreign War. Robinson has lived in Colorado for more than a decade and is an avid skier. Currently, he is involved in an affordable housing project in Parachute and teaches tennis to children.”For the past few years, we’ve had partisan politics, not representative state government. It’s time to have a balance of power so the legislature can get something done,” Robinson said.Robinson is a former board member of the Grand Valley Citizen’s Alliance, a Garfield County watchdog group focused on local gas development practices. “I want to go to Denver to give voice to the surface owners whose property rights are being trampled by the gas industry and ignored by the Colorado Oil and Gas commissioners,” Robinson said.He also wants to make higher educaiton a priority.
