Staff ReportA beer truck rolled over on Interstate 70 Wednesday night, prompting the Colorado State Patrol to close the highway for three hours while crews cleaned up the mess. The driver of the truck, which was headed from Fort Collins to Riverside, Calif., failed to negotiate a curve as he was coming out of the Hanging Lake Tunnel and lost control. The truck skidded more than 240 feet then flipped onto its left side. It then collided with the median barrier and slid on its side for about 440 more feet. It came to a stop blocking the westbound lanes of the highway. Westbound traffic was stopped at the Bair Ranch exit and allowed to turn around and head back east. The highway was closed from 8:05 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Wednesday. The driver of the rig, Kenneth F. Campbell, 48, of Parowan, Utah, was taken to Valley View Hospital and treated for minor injuries. A Colorado State Patrol news release said excessive speed was a factor in the crash and Campbell was given a summons for careless driving.
