Westbound I-70 hold later today for bridge girder delivery
One of the steel girders for the new Grand Avenue traffic bridge is now expected to arrive on Interstate 70 via semi truck later today, according to project officials with the Colorado Department of Transportation.
The huge bridge section was initially expected earlier in the day, but it has been delayed while traveling into Colorado from Utah and is now anticipated to arrive between 5-7 p.m., according to bridge project officials.
Once it gets to Glenwood, the over-sized truck must travel through Glenwood Canyon, turn around at Dotsero and return to Glenwood on westbound I-70, officials said.
When it does arrive, motorists are advised that westbound I-70 traffic will be held for 15 minutes near Exit 116 while crews direct the girder into the Hot Springs Pool parking lot.
The Grand Avenue Bridge project team will be posting to its Facebook page to let people know when the interstate will be closed and reopened.
