With area weather recently becoming a bit more friendly for fishing, it’s an appropriate time for local anglers to look ahead to the spring and summer ” and take part in an event that promises to help all resident fly fans.

The Ferdinand Hayden Chapter of Trout Unlimited hosts “Ice Out for Trout,” a fund-raising party and silent auction on Saturday, March 13, at the Hotel Colorado.

Doors open at 6 p.m. and everyone is invited to enjoy free hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar.

Guests can also place bids on an array of silent auction items, including guided fishing trips in Colorado and Florida, fly rods and tons of other items fishing enthusiasts can’t live without.

At 7:30 p.m., Tim Heng, manager of Taylor Creek Fly Shop, will present a slide show on fly fishing on Christmas Island.

At 8:30 p.m. folks will also gather for a raffle drawing of “Evening in Cheesman Canyon,” the first of four lithographs in a series by Montana artist and writer Russell Chatham.

Tickets for the Chatham raffle are $10 each or six for $50 and are available at the door or in advance by calling the following folks: Kendall Henry, 928-8358; Bob Millette, 947-9613; Mike Shook, 963-1084.
