In the market to buy your own drilling rig?
RIFLE, Colorado ” If you’re in the market to buy your own drilling rig, you’re in luck. There just happens to be one for sale west of Rifle right off Interstate 70.
OK, the price is about $5 million, but who wouldn’t want their own personal drilling rig in their back yard?
Unless, of course, you already have one.
The drilling rig west of Rifle is being sold through a company called Great American Group Energy based out of Woodland Hills, California, just north of Los Angeles.
“We’re in the business of buying and selling rigs,” said Scott Nordstrom, a partner in the company. “We bought a package of 12 rigs from a company that got out of the drilling business.”
Great American Group Energy buys the used rigs, refurbishes them and re-sells them ” for a hefty price. But it’s cheaper than a new drilling rig which can cost $18 million or more.
“We get (the rig) in work-ready condition and (potential buyers) can see that it’s ready to go,” Nordstrom said. “In this case I.E. Miller, a trucking and rig-moving company had space near the I-70 and allowed the non-operating rig to be placed on their property with a big “for sale” sign, with the hope that the visibility would help sign the piece of equipment.
Nordstrom said the company ” which also sells other construction, mining and oil and gas equipment ” has not attempted to sell anything on eBay. It does, however, have an international marketing campaign and sells rigs to Latin America, southeast Asia and the Middle and Far East.
There have been several phone calls about the rig for sale west of Rifle, but no one has purchased it so far.
Those wishing to buy a drilling rig can contact Nordstrom at (208) 867-9527 or email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
