DENVER (AP) ” A jury has convicted a state prison inmate of first-degree murder in the stabbing and beating death of another inmate.

David Bueno could face the death penalty in the 2004 death of Jeffery Heird in the Limon Correctional Facility.

Jurors in Lincoln County District Court in Hugo reached the verdict Wednesday. They had deliberated since Friday.

Prosecutors say Heird was labeled a snitch for not alerting other prisoners that a drug bust was coming.

The defense says Bueno was set up by other inmates and that case against him was based on unreliable witnesses.

A second inmate, Alejandro Perez, also faces a murder charge in the case and faces the death penalty if convicted. He will be tried later.
