J. Peter Hodge

J. Peter Hodge of San Marcos, Calif., died Saturday, April 5, 2003, in a motorcycle accident near Ramona, Calif. He was 49.

Mr. Hodge was born Sept. 6, 1953, in Longmont and grew up on a ranch in Parshall.

He lived for many years in the Rifle area.

He was a member of the Heavy Equipment Operators Union Local No. 9 in Colorado and Local No. 12 in California.

He loved riding his Harley and spending time in the mountains.

He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Mr. Hodge was a sober member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 16 years, and was active with hospitals and other institutions and in public speaking to promote the message of sobriety.

He is survived by a son, Zack (White) Hodge of Rifle; by brothers and sister-in-law Mike Hodge of Clifton and Walter and Sue Hodge of San Antonio, Texas; by a sister and brother-in-law, Lelia and Lee Parfet of Grand Junction; by a niece, Christy Parfet; and by nephews Tim Parfet and Andy Hodge.

A memorial service was held on Thursday, April 10, in Vista, Calif.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 14, at Rose Hill Cemetery in Rifle. A gathering will follow at the North Hall of the Garfield County Fairgrounds in Rifle following the burial.
