Jack-knifed semi hits pedestrian near Wolcott
VAIL VALLEY – Some 34 car crashes were reported on Thursday morning’s icy, snow-packed roads in the Vail Valley on Thursday, the Colorado State Patrol said.
A semi struck a man who was standing outside his car just east of the Wolcott exit on Interstate 70 on Thursday morning, police said.
The man was taken to the Vail Valley Medical Center with serious injuries.
Witnesses say the truck was going westbound when it jack-knifed, hitting the man and his vehicle, which were off the right side of the road, the State Patrol said.
The man was standing outside his car along with several other vehicles that had slid off the road, police said. The semi fled the scene prior to the arrival of law enforcement authorities.
One other injury was reported in Thursday morning’s crashes.
