James Edgar Webber

James Edgar Webber of Parachute, passed away Oct. 12, 2007. He was born May 23, 1913, in Binghamton, N.Y., to Foss and Margaret Webber. After seeing action in Paleliu, Palau, during World War II as a U.S. Marine, Jim remained in New York until his job with IBM moved him to Rochester, Minn., in 1957, then again to Colorado in 1965. Jim retired from IBM in 1973, and started his own outfitting company, which he ran for two decades. He married Shirley (Gray-Frank) Dec. 12, 1981. Together they owned stables and took horseback rides and overnight pack trips at Arrowhead Ranch in Cimarron. The last 20 years of his life, Jim was blind. He was an inspiration, as he walked every day with his guide dogs, Rex and then Ben. Jim and Ben walked in the Olympic Torch Relay in 2002 when it passed through this area.Jim was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Elks Lodge. Jim is survived by his wife; daughters Sandy (Duane) Andrist and Patricia Prislusky; stepdaughter Sharon Owen; stepsons Michael and Stanley Frank; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife Grace, and son Kenneth.Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, in the Catholic-Methodist Church in Parachute.
