James "Roy" Tharp
James “Roy” Tharp of Rifle died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at his home. He was 96.
He was born April 9, 1906, in Ripley County, Mo., to Hester Keel and John W. Tharp.
He married Opal I. Brooks on Dec. 23, 1932, in Calm, Mo. She preceded him in death.
Mr. Tharp was a carpenter. He lived in the Rifle area for the past 42 years.
He was preceded in death by brothers Carl Tharp and Jim Tharp; by a granddaughter, Marie; and by a grandson, Cary.
Mr. Tharp is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Ralph and LaVeta Tharp of New Castle, Richard and Inez Tharp of Rialto, Calif., and Blant and Kathy Tharp of DeSoto, Mo.; by a daughter and son-in-law, Dalia and Larry Garrison of Rifle; by a brother, John Tharp of Naylor, Mo.; and by 16 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Briar, Mo.
Farnum Holt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
