James Wayne Smith

James Wayne Smith of Parachute died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, in Rifle. He was 89.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 17, at Grand Valley United Methodist Church, 132 Parachute Ave. in Parachute.

Mr. Smith was born June 9, 1914, in Kensley, Kan., to Frances Barnes and Fred Smith.



He married Irene Smith in December 1994.

Mr Smith previously lived in Aurora, where he worked as a consultant to the Aurora School District.



He is survived by his wife, Irene Smith of Parachute; by son and daughter-in-law Darrel and Margaret Smith of Crystal, Minn.; by daughter and son-in-law Marlene and Frank Thomas of Dodge City, Kan.; by stepsons and stepdaughters-in-law Frank and Jeannie Donofrio of Glenwood Springs, and Michael and Diane Donofrio of Parker; by stepdaughters and stepson-in-law Mary and Clarence Parenti of Larkspur, and Rosemarie Marousck of Oceanside, Calif.; by a brother and sister-in-law, William and Ruth Smith of Hutchinson, Kan.; by a sister, Jo Ann Young of Great Bend, Kan.; and by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Contributions may be made to Betty Ford Alpine Gardens, 183 Gore Creek Drive, Vail, CO 81657, for a memorial bench.

Rifle Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
