Janet Selina Sinclair Steed

Janet Sinclair Steed passed away unexpectedly June 15, 2006, at her home in Ruidoso, N.M.Janet was born April 27, 1953, in Aspen, to Robert and Elizabeth (Oblock) Sinclair. She was raised on the family ranch with her three siblings in Brush Creek, now the Snowmass Golf Course, and various other subdivisions. Janet graduated from Aspen High School in 1971, then graduated from Western State College in Gunnison in 1977.Janet married Mike Steed June 5, 1976, on the family ranch. They moved to Ruidoso in 1977 and opened Steed’s Ski Sports in 1980. She enjoyed raising her two daughters, skiing and crocheting. Janet was also employed at Ruidoso Downs Race Track.Janet was an avid animal lover. She was especially proud of all the Newfoundland dogs she had loved over the years and of her 4-year-old Newfoundland, Raven.Survivors include her husband; mother; sisters Deanne (Phil) Hemman, of Parachute, and Barb Sinclair, of Basalt; daughters Selina (Jim) Schirle, of Centennial, and Skye Steed, of Gunnison.Janet was preceded in death by her father; and her brother, Bruce Prior Sinclair.There will be a memorial service at a later date this summer. The memorial announcement will be posted before the service.
