Edna Jayne Barker was born in Trinidad, Colorado on June 20, 1920, the youngest of two children, to parents Sewell and Sandy Barker.

She married her high school sweetheart, Arthur Ridlon in 1941. The couple settled in Los Lunas, New Mexico where they raised two daughters (Ardith Jo and Betsey Louise), certified Black Angus cattle and race horses. A favorite on their Los Lunas ranch was a brood mare who had been retired on a mesa in Trinidad, Colorado. The young couple was told that they could have the promising mare if they could catch her. Many buckets of grain and bags of carrots latter Surprise was in the trailer and heading to New Mexico where she would become the founding member of their successful breeding operation. The family enjoyed many afternoons at race tracks throughout the west where Imp of Erin,

GiGis Breeze, and Barney O’Toole graced the winners circle. These successful bloodlines are still found in race stock today.

Arthur passed away in 1981 and Jayne returned to her beloved Colorado where she spent the last 25 years living near her two daughters. Throughout her life Jayne enjoyed gardening, playing the organ and watching the mountains for wild life. While in New Mexico Jayne also worked at the Los Lunas Hospital and Training School.

Jayne passed away peacefully on Oct. 23, 2010 in her Battlement Mesa home.

Jayne is survived by her children Ardith Knipe (Battlement Mesa, Colorado), Betsey Ridlon (Rifle, Colorado), two grand children, and three great grand children.
