Jerry Douglas (Doug) Hammar, 43, of Glenwood Springs, died peacefully in his home on Monday, May 7, 2012.

He was born on December 15, 1968, in Boulder, CO, to Jerry Harold Hammar and Dena Marie (Hay) Hammar.

Doug grew up in Glenwood Springs and graduated from Glenwood Springs High School in 1987. He attended Colorado State University and the University of Denver, Lamont School of Music, where he studied classical guitar under Masakazu Ito. He earned an associate’s degree in Applied Science and Computer Support from Colorado Mountain College before working as a web and database developer.



Doug was kind and generous and had an infectious sense of humor. He was enduringly optimistic and always quick to offer a word of encouragement or a smile to those in need. He was an accomplished classical guitarist and shared his love of music of all types with everyone around him.

Doug is survived by his parents Dena and Jerry Hammar of Glenwood Springs, his daughter Emily Olson of Aspen, his sister Molly Hammar Cloyd of Golden, his grandmother Anne Marie Lawrence of Sutton, VT, and his nephew Gavin Matthew Cloyd of Golden.



There will be a memorial service on Saturday, May 19th, at 2:00 PM at Mountain View Church in Glenwood Springs. Memorial contributions may be made to LIFT-UP, P.O. Box 1928, Rifle, CO 81650.
