Jessie Maxine (Volpe) Gabelman

Jessie Maxine (Volpe) Gabelman, 94, departed this world on October 30, 2012.

Maxine was born in Mead, KS, and raised in Canon City, CO. She earned a Master’s degree from Western State College, and was a teacher in towns throughout the western slope. She became a professor at Mesa State College, where she retired from teaching. She enjoyed many hobbies and interests, and became a licensed pilot. She was married to Dr. Omer P. Gabelman, and the two enjoyed world travels and medical missionary work. Through Maxine, those closest to her were able to learn about fortitude and compassion. She is survived by sons Edward (Barbara) Volpe and John (Alice) Volpe, step-children Joyce (Larry) Chynoweth, Judy (Ron) Bardstad, and Calvin (Patty) Gabelman, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Donations in her name may be made to the Colorado Mesa University Foundation, 1100 North Avenue, Grand Junction, CO 81501.
