Jimmie L. Hess

Jimmie L. Hess, also known as Doc, a resident of Salida, Colo., for 27 years, died at this home April 5, 2007. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ethel Hess; two daughters, Shirley (Harry) Beres of Grand Junction; and Lois (Richard) Martinez of Colorado Springs; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, two brothers and numerous nieces and nephews.Mr. Hess was born in Enid, Okla., on March 20, 1926. He was one of 13 children. Jim grew up and received his education in Telluride, Colo. He served in the Marines during World War II and was a survivor of Iwo Jima. Jim was well known in the mining community from Telluride to Leadville. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.Memorial services are set for 1 p.m. Monday, April 9, 2007, at Granzella Hall, 447 Blake St., Salida, Colo. Arrangements are with Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
