Jimmy (Jim) Allen Ross

Jim Allen Ross, 71, of Winnemucca, Nev., passed away Oct. 29, 2008, in Reno, Nev.

He was born Nov. 11, 1936, in Gilman, to Jim and Alline Clark Ross.

Jim served in the U.S. Air Force.

Jim married Betty Jean Barker on Feb. 16, 1957. They had three children.

He was captain for the Civil Air Patrol in Nevada and was involved in the search and rescue operations. He flew the founders of Vail Ski Area for photo shoots to develop the ski resort and later worked for Vail Associates. He also ranched in the Eagle County area. Jim later moved to Nevada and operated heavy equipment in the open-pit mines.

Jim loved to fly airplanes, calf roping, family and friends.

He married Shirley Durrill on May 14, 1989.

He is survived by his second wife; mother Alline Ross of Stillwell, Okla.; brother Bob (Kathy) Ross of Delta; children Janice (Eric) Olsen of North Hills, Calif., Bill Ross of Grand Junction, and Ben (Heidi) Ross of Rifle; stepdaughters Barbara Nichols of Winnemucca, and Annemarie Woodworth of Carlin, Nev.; grandchildren Rachel, Nicholas, Keenan and Dustin Ross, and Blake Olsen.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at the Rocky Mountain Baptist Church, 4199 W. Centennial Parkway in Rifle. Pastor Jim Sheets will officiate.

A luncheon will immediately follow at the Rifle Elks Lodge.
