John J. "Jack" Pavell

Jack, 93, passed away peacefully July 29, 2008.

He was born June 28, 1915 in Billerica, Mass.

During World War II. Jack proudly served in the U.S. Navy’s Pacific Fleet as an electrician’s mate.



After being discharged from the Navy in 1945, Jack moved to Las Vegas. While there, he worked at the Nevada Test Site and for several electrical companies. In 1952, he started Pavell Electrical Supply, which was to become a successful electrical wholesale distributor. In 1973, Jack sold his company and retired.

Jack moved to Aspen in 1979. Aspen was an area he had come to love for its wonderful skiing, hiking and gardening. In order to stay active in the business community, Jack purchased Penelope’s Restaurant in Glenwood Springs, which is now Rivers Restaurant.



Jack was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Daylite #44, and the Scottish Rite of Freemasonary. Jack was a well-respected and giving person who made many lifelong friends in the Aspen/Glenwood Springs area, and will be missed as a vibrant member of our community.

He is survived by his beloved daughter Nancy, family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Alpine Home Health, 1316 Grand Ave. Glenwood Springs CO 81601.

A casual gathering to celebrate Jack’s life will be held at Rivers Restaurant at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9.
